ASK THE RIGHT PERSON THE RIGHT QUESTION

ASK THE RIGHT PERSON THE RIGHT QUESTION  [t-h-i-n-k]

As many of you know, my husband is also my business partner. While he appreciates geometric art, realism, and photography, abstract art isn't his forte. For years, I sought his opinion on my abstract pieces, often receiving lukewarm responses like, "It's just okay," or "Isn't this similar to last week's painting?"

I realized I was asking the wrong person - someone who neither creates nor has expertise in abstract art. This got me thinking: Why do we often turn to family or friends for input when they may not be the best suited to provide it?

Now, I seek feedback from fellow abstract artists who understand and appreciate the nuances of the style. However, I've found one question that works well with my husband: "What does this painting feel like?" His responses like "It feels happy"or "It feels moody and mysterious" provide valuable emotional insight.

The takeaway? When seeking input on your artwork, consider the source!

Are you asking the right person the right question?

Staying Sane Through the Holidays [k-n-o-w]

As the holiday season approaches, there’s a topic that affects us all: stress. While this time of year can bring joy and inspiration, it can also present unique challenges for creatives.

Family expectations, potential disagreements, and overflowing to-do lists can quickly overwhelm us, potentially stifling our artistic flow. Remember, just as flight attendants advise putting on your own oxygen mask before assisting others, it's crucial to prioritize your creative spirit.

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish - it's essential for your art and well-being.
