Don’t Forget the Most Crucial Document for Your Art

THE MOST CRUCIAL DOCUMENT FOR YOUR ART  [t-h-i-n-k]

As an artist, you pour your heart and soul into your creations. But once the paint dries or the sculpture takes its final form, there's a whole other world to navigate: the business of art. While your passion may lie in the studio, success often depends on mastering the less glamorous aspects of your career. From managing invoices to organizing receipts, these tasks are essential. But there's one document that stands out as both a badge of honor and a crucial business tool: the Certificate of Authenticity. Let's explore why this simple piece of paper carries so much weight in the art world.

A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a crucial document in the art world, serving as a seal of trust between artists, collectors, and galleries. This official record verifies the artwork's origin, authorship, and uniqueness, protecting both the artist's reputation and the buyer's investment. A COA not only adds value to the piece but also plays a vital role in preventing fraud and ensuring the artwork's provenance. For serious collectors and investors, a properly documented COA is indispensable, often becoming as important as the artwork itself in establishing long-term value and legitimacy in the art market.

Just Be You. Everyone Else is Taken [k-n-o-w]

As an artist, your unique voice is your greatest asset. For years I wanted to be a “skinny brush girl”. I loved the scribbly vibe of Cy Twombly, Basquiat, and the energetic brushwork of Joan Mitchell. Over the years I purchased numerous skinny brushes, only to load them up with too much paint, resulting in a thicker line. Why was I doing this? Because that’s how I roll! I load up EVERY brush I use and enjoy doing it. Once I realized this habit, I quit buying skinny brushes and embraced a thicker line. I use drawing mediums for the skinny stuff and have never looked back.

Embracing your personal experiences, perspectives, and creative instincts allows you to produce work that resonates deeply with viewers. Authentic art doesn't just capture attention—it forges connections, sparks conversations, and leaves lasting impressions. While it's natural to feel pressure to conform or emulate successful styles (quit scrolling on Instagram!), remember that your most impactful creations will always stem from genuine self-expression.
